Pillete

16 02 2008

Pillete, the new concept of Bluetooth headset is so tiny, it’s almost invisible to the untrained eye when you are wearing it. So you don’t have to worry anymore about looking like Robocop when walking down the street with it, but you have to consider the possibility of people starting to think you’ve lost your marbles and you’re talking to yourself.

The downside is the fact that people have different sized ears and the device might be to small and slip out or to big and not fit. People who often use earphones will tell you I’m right. But once they’ll figure out a way to make the Pillete adjustable, this design will be the future of all headsets.

ClickFree HD700 Backup

16 02 2008

If you have ever had the unfortunate pain of a deleted hard drive, then you know the importance of backing up all your information. Believe it or not, the average consumer does not have any backup protection on their computer. The sad case is that most consumers want to backup their hard drive, but many of them do not know how.

Consumers should be glad that there are now easy ways to back-up all their information. For example, the HD700 from ClickFree, a device that prides itself as being an automatic backup “for the rest of us”.

The HD700 is very simple to use and works by plugging into a computer’s USB port. It then automatically downloads software to back up a computer’s entire hard drive. Oddly enough, no CD-ROM is included, nor needed, because everything a user needs is all on the device itself.

Onkyo APX-2 HD Audio Computer

16 02 2008

Onkyo is one famous brand in Japan, and the APX-2 is the latest HD Audio computer to be released by the company. This time, it was launched in partnership with SOTEC, also from Japan. This entertainment-centric computer will come with the following specifications :-

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 500GB hard drive
  • Digital Audio amplifier
  • Onkyo PCI-200 audio card

Onkyo has gone to great lengths in order to reduce the amount of noise coming out from this, where its hard drive is stored in a “Super Floating HDD Unit” – of course, it could also have eliminated all noise by including an SSD, but that will certainly prohibit many people from buying one of this then. Onkyo has also bypassed the Volume Mixer function of Vista and installed the PDAP (Pure Direct Audio Path) to prevent HD Audio loss, an area where Vista is notoriously poor at.

Phylips phone gives extra 3 hours by using AAA battery

16 02 2008

If you’re anything like me, you use your cell phone far more than you use your landline. Honestly, the only time I really pick up my home phone is when I know I’m going to be on the line with a customer service rep that could take a while. Aside from that, everything goes through my mobile. Naturally, I can wear my battery down faster than I’d like. Philips knows that this is a problem for some people, and have created a phone that will use a single AAA battery to give you a little extra boost of power.

Fly Clear card

16 02 2008

All of us who have been on a plane know about how long you have to wait before you can board because of the annoyingly thorough check-ups you have to pass before you can go on your trip. But from now on you can leave all those controls behind thanks to the new Flyclear card. And it only costs $99.95 a year and the fee for TSA of $28.To get one, you have to go to a Clear center and present two official identification cards. Then you have to take a photo and give them your biometric information. They suggest that you should have a US passport, but foreign people are welcomed to.

So now you can eliminate the stress from your plane trips, not worry about those hidden pierces and miss a lot less planes. The Flyclear has already been put into function but for very few airports like Orlando, San Jose and JFK and the service is not available all day long. But there are plans to expand this technology.

Alienware show off their awesomeness curved DLP display

15 02 2008

At Las Vegas CES, Alienware introduce their new curved DLP display that will be available in the second half of the year. The picture above is just the late engineering prototype; everything from the internals to the casing is probably going to change. There are four LED-backlit DLP projectors inside, which explains the lines in the image above, but the final version will show a seamless image. The ideal viewing position is directly in the middle at about two feet away. That’s when the image seamlessly appears to wrap all the way around your vision, and it’s just as sweet as you’d expect. This is probably the best monitor for games like 3D shooting, racing, etc. Pricing information is still infuriatingly non-specific: the best we got was “more than a 17-inch flat panel and less than a Kia.”

Blue Laser Pointer

15 02 2008

There’s a new laser color in town!

It all started when a lone Japanese researcher, Shuji Nakamura, began working on developing a bright blue LED. After eight years of research the commercial blue LED was created and two years later he had developed the diode for producing a blue laser. Using gallium nitride crystals (instead of zinc selenide as many others were) he was able to solve a problem that other larger companies had been working on for many years. Now the blue laser, with a wavelength much shorter than a red laser, is enabling the next generation of high definition DVD players to come to market. It also completes the trilogy of basic colors (red, green, blue) that are now available for handheld laser pointers.

The Blue Laser Pointer is a unique and unusual item and you can be one of the first in the world to possess this special gadget. The 473 nanometer blue laser light is sure to make all other laser pointers green with envy. It will let everyone know that you are a geek to be reckoned with, just like Shuji Nakamura.

Please note that the Blue Laser Pointer is a very new item and although it is expensive, until recently a blue laser could only be purchased for thousands of dollars. This is the newest type of laser available and as a result it’s costly just as red and green lasers were when they first appeared for sale.

  • Unusual blue laser beam at 473 nm wavelength
  • Output power of <5mW (Class IIIa Laser Product)
  • 1.5 mm beam diameter at aperture
  • Momentary push button switch
  • Pulsed wave output
  • Takes 1 “CR2″ battery (included)
  • Dimensions: 5.9″ x .67″ dia
